Trucker, stand up for your rights, hire an attorney.

I recently talked to a trucker with a horror story about being miles from home he was from Texas and being pulled into scales (maryland)  and given a completely bogus overlength ticket.  when the trucker points out to the Scale master that he was not overlength and then pointed out trucks going by longer than he was.  The scalemaster proceeded to pull out a book to prove that he was right, instead the "book" the scalemaster produced proved the driver was right instead.  The Scalemaster then threw the book back in the drawer and basically told the trucker "tough beans, im the law and your getting a ticket."  Well, you might think,  "that trucker got an attorney and fought that ticket right?"  Nope,  he told me he was too far from home and didnt have time to waste finding an attorney. This isnt the first time I have heard that excuse .  In this day and age of the internet and google.  That excuse doesnt fly. That trucker could have easily gotten on his laptop or iphone.  and spent an hour finding an attorney.  I have hired plenty of attorneys without meeting them and  have never had to attend any court proceedings.   Even if he lost his case "which if what the driver told me was true, I doubt he would have."  That scale master would think twice about abusing his authority with a trumped up ticket the next time an unsuspecting "out of state truck" pulled across his scale.
